Adeeb Barqawi

Adeeb is the president and CEO of ProUnitas, a nonprofit whose mission is to help school districts implement technology systems and best practices that make access to mental health and basic needs services quicker and more coordinated for all students.

Before launching ProUnitas, Adeeb was a 2012 Teach for America Corps Member and taught physics at Kashmere High School in Northeast Houston. During that time, he was the recipient of the Kinder Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award as well as the State of Texas ACP Beginner Teacher of the Year Award. Prior to joining Teach for America, he worked in the pharmaceutical industry.

Adeeb is an alumnus of the Center for Houston’s Future Fall 2015 Business/Civic Executive Leadership Forum and a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum (Class XXXVII). His work led The Houston Chronicle to recognize him as one of five people who are most likely to shape Houston’s future. In 2017, the Texas State Board of Education appointed him to serve on the inaugural steering committee of the Texas Long-Range Plan for Public Education. He is a board member of Good Reason Houston and The Hope & Healing Center.

Adeeb earned a master’s degree in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University and a master’s degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University.
